Writing Task 2/Ideal Society

IELTS Academic Writing Task 2 - Fast food

With a fast pace of modern life more and more people are turning towards fast food for their main meals. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Increasingly, people are choosing to have fast food as their main meals nowadays. Many people cannot afford the time to cook for themselves or for their family. People purchase fast food meals instead of cooking at home or going to restaurants that serve high-quality fresh food.

Consumption of fast food is usually considered a negative habit because fast food meals are usually made using unhealthy ingredients and cooking methods compared to other options. Having quick eats regularly may be a cause of obesity, diabetes and other diseases. However, people choose to dine at fast food chains because the benefits outweigh the harms, even though many people are aware of the detrimental effects on one’s health.

First of all, fast food allows you to save time and cost. Fast food is served in a short time, while freshly made food is prepared in at least 10-20 minutes. Many people have a short lunch time and do not have the time for a long wait at a restaurant. Also, restaurant meals are too expensive compared to fast food in some countries. Second of all, fast food restaurants are very easy to access as they are usually located at prime locations and do not need to pay tips. Some people do not want to spend money on service and just want to help themselves.

The trend that fast food chains are growing is inevitable, as the disadvantages fall short of advantages. In the future, fast food chains may consider how to make fast food healthier by using better ingredients and methods, so that they can attract health conscious consumers.
